This rainbow cloud craft is a great way to practice fine motor skills while having fun! It provides an excellent opportunity to talk to your child or client about colors, clouds and more!
The materials are required:
- Construction paper
- A cloud cut out (or you can draw your own). We have included the one we used below.
- Safety scissors
- Decorations such as googly eyes and stickers
First, trace a one-inch strip on the construction paper. This is a great opportunity for your child or client to learn how to use a ruler. Next, cut out the cloud and the one-inch strips.
We recommend using safety scissors, as the use of safety scissors can help a child strengthen their hands and improve their visual motor skills. While cutting, make sure your child places their thumb in one hole and their middle finger through the other. The index finger can rest on the outside of the scissor or can be placed in the same hole as the middle finger. You can jazz up your strips of paper by using decorative scissors!
Then, flip each cloud over and place a colored dot where you want each color strip to be. If you would like the colors of the rainbow, follow the helpful acronym ROY-G-BIV. To make the colors appear in order on the front side, place the red dot on the right side of the back of the cloud.
Next, have your child match the strips of paper to the color dots and glue them on. Matching activities are a creative way to improve visual memory and learn about similarities and differences.
Finally, it is time to get creative by decorating your cloud! You can place googly eyes on it, draw a funny face and more! You can even use this activity as an opportunity to teach your child about the science of clouds or place sight words on the strips of paper for a fun way to practice them.
