Staten Island Speech Therapy Services

Our Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) have studied for a minimum of 6 years at the university level, holding a minimum of a Masters Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, carrying and/or working toward a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC), and have maintained additional sensory-based and oro-myofunctional training across professional fields.

Our SLPs work diligently to keep abreast of the most current professional research and evidence-based practice within our discipline and related disciplines.  The SLPs at The Sensory Studio consider the whole child while evaluating and treating speech and language disabilities at our center or in your home.

Speech & Language Screening

Prior to receiving Speech & Language Therapy, an SLP will conduct an informal assessment of present levels of performance and set a specific plan of treatment.  The SLP may utilize articulatory assessments, language based testing, parent/patient interview and more.  The target of this service is to determine the specific speech and language needs of the patient along with developing and outlining a specific treatment plan.

Speech & Language Comprehensive Evaluation

To comprehensively evaluate all speech and language skills, our SLPs will conduct a formal, standardized assessment, along with a case history, parent interview and oral-sensory screening to identify specific areas of concern.  A complete report will be developed to include present levels of performance in articulation, receptive and expressive language skills, oral motor and sensory awareness.  Data will be derived from the formalized assessments and a comprehensive treatment plan will be generated, including professional recommendations and necessary referrals.  Finally, a meeting between the parent/patient and evaluating clinician or team will be held to review and discuss findings in detail.

Speech & Language Treatment

Therapy may be conducted on a group or individual level, based on and determined by the specific needs of the patient.  All treatment settings will be discussed and decided upon jointly by the clinician and the patient/parent.  Therapy may include a table-top activity, sensory play, feeding, improvisation and more.  Recommendations for academic accommodations and clinically-supportive modalities may be made throughout the course of treatment.

We believe whole-heartedly in the efficacy of parent involvement.  Progression of growth and improvement is always bolstered and advanced by parental cooperation and carryover.  We invite families to learn, join in and play an active role in maximizing their child’s potential.
